Hi friends! ☀️
We’re almost halfway through the Develop for Good Spring Project cycle and we want to thank all our hardworking volunteers, mentors, and executive team members. In this newsletter, we’ll provide you with some updates on new partnerships, volunteer and mentor spotlights, and more!
Partnership with Adobe 🍾
We are so excited to announce that Develop for Good has been selected for the 2021 Adobe Employee Community Fund Grant. Our work and journey of using technology and design for social good continues thanks to this generous partnership. Many thanks to Adobe and their Brand Purpose team!
Volunteer Spotlights 🌟
A section dedicated to recognizing and thanking our committed volunteer Product Managers, Developers, and Designers for donating their talents to our nonprofit clientele.
Meet Justin Lau, School of Interactive Art and Technology @ Simon Fraser University
“I am motivated to volunteer my skills to Develop for Good because I believe in contributing to organizations that champion social good, such as diversity, equity and inclusion, environmental sustainability, or accessible education for all. Through DFG, I was able to work with Upmost Foundation, a community-based experience booking service that donates proceeds to charities across the globe. Through this work, I was able to meet a ton of talented peers from all over the world, develop my own skills and competencies as a UX designer and researcher, and most importantly, give back to initiatives that aim to make the world a better place.”
Meet Sam Wong, Finance & Entrepreneurship @ University of British Columbia
"I've always been the most inspired by individuals and institutions who push the boundaries of what's possible. DFG helps foster this creative process by bridging the gap between emerging tech talent and global societal problems. My project with Social Income showcases the huge opportunity to provide direct, tailored support to users in West Africa, who would benefit immensely from consistent financial aid. Overseeing the end-to-end development of a mobile app - carefully crafted for the unique needs and pains of these recipients - is a fulfilling experience you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.”
We will be posting more volunteer spotlights on our LinkedIn page over the coming weeks!
Thank you to Inspiring Service 🙏
We would like to give a huge shoutout to Inspiring Service for generously developing our custom application platform for us. Craig, Jim, Michael, Doug, and Elizabeth have helped us refine our recruitment process so much and we are so grateful for their willingness to go above and beyond to support our mission as a whole. Thank you!
Shout Out to our Industry Mentors 💪
A huge thank you to Ivy Teng Lei and Emily Jablonski for hosting a Exygy networking event with our Spring volunteers! They spent an hour sharing their journey into the social impact space, the lessons they learned, and the challenges they continue to overcome.
An additional special thank you to Tara Rezvani, Technical Lead Manager & Software Engineer at Wing, for hosting a workshop for our student volunteers on best development practices!
