Hello Friends! 👋🏽
We’re right at the midpoint of our Summer Project Cycle and our volunteers are all working hard on their projects! Just a quick update from us here at Develop for Good.
Rethinking volunteerism: donating your comparative advantage 💪
Check out Develop for Good Co-Founder Mary Zhu’s recent TEDxStanford Talk! Her talk “Rethinking volunteerism: donating your comparative advantage” sheds light on common misconceptions around volunteerism and the motivation behind Develop for Good: donating your skills and passions. Project Case Study Highlights 💫
As we continue our Summer Cycle, we would like to recognize the talent and commitment from our volunteers in recent cycles by highlighting their work.
South Bronx United Website Redesign and Development: Highlighting community impact and resources
South Bronx United (SBU) uses soccer as a vehicle for social change, combining athletics with academic support, college access, mentoring, immigration legal services, and more. This website redesign will impact many of its stakeholders. First, current SBU participants will be able to effortlessly utilize the abundance of resources on the website. Second, prospective students and families will be able to more easily find programs to register for and ways to get in contact with SBU staff members. Lastly, supporters and donors will be able to more clearly see the tremendous impact that SBU has on the community, further expanding SBU’s reach.
Check out the new site here!

Terra Firma: Redesign for Website Supporting Immigrants’ Access to Medical & Legal Services
Terra Firma is a nationally recognized medical-legal partnership working to facilitate access to medical care and enhance the role of medicine and mental health in legal services for unaccompanied immigrant youth coming to America.
The newly created website serves as an easily updatable foundation for Terra Firma to more effectively reach their target audiences. Including information (that can easily be translated to Spanish) on offered programs and services will help immigrant youth and families learn more about what help is available to them. Building a referral process with clear eligibility criteria and contact information will help partners navigate how to refer clients to the nonprofit. Finally, clearly incorporating ways to become involved with Terra Firma (donating, volunteering, joining their mailing list, etc.) will increase engagement and further support their mission.

“I plan to use software engineering to help fulfill the needs of the groups I represent and want to look for. For that reason, Develop for Good constitutes a wonderful chance to get even more involved and to learn how to use technology to tackle difficult problems affecting underdeveloped countries. With the Mission: Cure organization, our team is working on a mobile app that will help build the capacity of patients and caregivers to advocate for better care practices and recognize what they deserve to have. Knowing I can wake up today and collaborate with a team of brilliant volunteers who are doing their best to serve others and who are doing something about the issues they care about makes me feel excited about the future.”
